Finland eager to have a share of the growing cleantech market
Finland has launched a conquest of the global cleantech market with Finpro at the helm. The Cleantech Finland brand supports the growth of Finland’s environmental business sector and builds the country’s reputation as a leading cleantech country and the number one supplier of clean technology. Cleantech Finland is a guarantee not just for cutting-edge technology but also for efficient business practices.
The objective of the Cleantech Finland brand is to increase awareness of Finnish enterprises amongst national and international stakeholder groups and to raise Finland’s profile as a responsible high-tech and environmental expert, worthy of investment and relocation.
“In addition to the increased awareness, Finnish enterprises benefit directly from the image of credibility and reliability that the brand promotes. Cleantech Finland is an efficient marketing tool that gives Finnish enterprises a strategic competitive edge. The brand pools together Finland’s cutting-edge expertise in this field,” explains Jorma Turunen, President of Finpro and a member of the steering group for the Cleantech Finland brand.
The long-term goal for Cleantech Finland is to profile Finland as the best-known cleantech country on Finland’s potential markets by 2012.
Joint venture of hundreds of enterprises and thousands of individuals
The global conquest of the Cleantech Finland brand has only just begun, but Finland has already come together to show a strong will to make clean technology one of the country’s strongest future footholds. More than one hundred of Finland’s leading cleantech enterprises produced a joint brand strategy in spring 2008, aiming for a breakthrough on the global market with the help of Finpro and Reputation Management Consultancy Pohjoisranta.
“Cutting-edge technology and innovativeness alone are not enough to profile Finnish expertise on the global market. Other countries are riding on the same factors. Our goal with the brand strategy is to find aspects that are typical of the Finnish way of operating, in a positive sense. Efficiency is one example of these. Finland is not the biggest cleantech supplier in the world, but our agility both in developing new solutions and implementing them sets us apart from our competitors,” says Santtu Hulkkonen, Executive Director of Cleantech Finland.
The core of the brand is built around tangible business ventures that are supported by marketing communications. Other promoters of Finland’s cleantech sector include the industrial environmental forum of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) and competence clusters of the energy and environmental sectors. Cleantech is also rapidly becoming the primary target for many private and public investors.
