What is this project about?

The primary aim of the Ready Steady GO! Finland programme is to give birth to new and innovative products and services which encourage people to take exercise and improve their overall wellbeing. Ready Steady GO! Finland promotes competitiveness in the sector, innovation which leads to growth and successful new products and services, benefiting from international business opportunities and the strengthening of co-operative networks.

The program began in January 2011 and is being run on a joint basis by Aalto University, Finpro, Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo and some 20 co-operating companies. The designation of Helsinki as World Design Capital 2012 provided inspiration for the Ready Steady GO! Finland project.

The basic idea of the Ready Steady GO! Finland program is simple: professionals working in the physical exercise and design sectors are brought together and helped to form product development groups. Each group is assigned the task of developing design products and/or service concepts for the physical exercise sector which are then tested out by a community consisting of the project's principal actors. The best concepts are taken to the prototype stage and tested in international markets.

The Ready Steady GO! Finland programme has four phases:

READY - Phase I

In the initial phase, the aim is to recognise principal actors in the physical exercise and design sectors and arrange for them to be brought together, to build a new business model development and marketing cluster, and to stimulate public discussion of both the principal actors and the growth potential in the physical exercise and design sectors.

STEADY - Phase II

In this phase, business opportunities are the focus, working groups are formed and new business ideas are generated and screened, then refined through the cluster's joint innovation process. In this phase, the focus is on recognising, analysing and exploiting signals and global trends.

GO! – Phase III

In the third phase, teams concentrate on the productisation of emerging or existing business ideas and generating an appropriate business plan. Principal factors include the identification of target markets, the formulation of plans for piloting product ideas, testing product concepts and pilot projects in target countries. Company-specific consultation and training is provided in accordance with the cluster's specific needs.

FINLAND - Phase IV

In the program's FINLAND phase, the primary objective is to market the new business concepts at events taking place in 2012 both in Finland and abroad.

Target group

This program is for Finnish actors in the physical exercise and design sectors: designers, industrial concerns, training and research institutions and organisations offering physical exercise and wellbeing services.

Schedule

The program was launched in January 2011 and will continue until the end of 2012.
