Finnish lifestyle & design brands tapped into the South Korean market in style
Finland Lifestyle & Design Fair introduced Finnish fashion and home & interior brands to the South Korean market in April. The event showcased 17 brands from Finland for over 600 visitors in the trendy Gangnam area of Seoul, with the venue decorated in the style of Finnish homes.
The first two days of the event focused on B2B meetings with local buyers, distributors, importers and media. The following days brands presented their products to local consumers interested in Finnish design. There is high demand in South Korea for Nordic design, especially in home items. As a result, seven Finnish brands selling home decoration items and fashion accessories at the event found many happy local customers.
The initial results of B2B meetings were also promising for the brands. Two companies received their first orders in the market and one company signed a contract with a local company to start working as their agent in South Korea.
“We were very glad about the positive reception in Seoul. Local buyers really liked our authentic product, well-designed packaging and the fact that everything is made in Finland. We ended up selling many of our products to a company owning several hundred stores in South Korea”, said Hanna Jauhiainen, development & sales manager of Myssyfarmi.
Finland Lifestyle & Design Fair had also visitors from the local fashion and design media. The popular magazines Maison Korea and Instyle Koreacreated buzz in social media by posting Instagram-videos from the event reaching almost 10’000 views during the first week.
A follow-up project for this event is planned for December 2017, as part of Finpro’s Lifestyle Finland program.
